I usually ‘bang out" my local newspaper column Accordion to Dan at a local fast food restaurant. One morning, this old goat (me) was sitting there with pen and paper, ready to attempt a new concept when I heard a couple other "youngsters" chatting nearby. All of a sudden one of the seniors used the expression, “it is what it is.”
Talk about complacency, that expression these days drives yours truly "up the wall", in fact, it "really takes the cake"!
My focus changed in that split second. If, for example, the price of gas went up to five smackeroos per litre, "down the road", it would be quite conceivable for complacency to perk up again with, “Oh well, it is what it is.”
Relishing that moment and silently thanking those two with something new to "tank" up with, I was "fueled" with a snappy idea and exclaimed—silently, of course —“hot dog, there’s something new to scribble out.”
